Newstalk 93 Fm, previously known as Radio Mona, was established in 1996 from the idea of Principal Sir Kenneth Hall who saw the importance of broadcast radio and the impact radio made on American campuses. As the first university radio station in Jamaica, the then Radio Mona, quickly rose to fame with the popularity of its 'talk radio' reaching far and wide across Jamaica. The voice of the UWI was introduced to Jamaicans through the hosts introducing them to academia and, research through full discussions on various current affairs topics.
